Nero Recode and Mpeg4 DVD players

I have compressed a couple of DVD's using Nero Recode (which I understood
was Mpeg4). I have tried to play the disk on 3 mpeg4 capable DVD players.
The files are not recognized.
Are there any settings one should use with Nero, when recoding, or is it
just their own version of mpeg 4 which requires a Nero codec to play?

This is because while the video is indeed being compressed using an
MPEG-4 encoder, the container format used by Nero Recode is specific
to the Nero software. It's conceivable that a manufacturer might
license it from Nero, but I don't know of any.

I'd suggest using Gordian Knot (which you can get from http://www.doom9.net/)
with the DivX or XviD codec instead, as that'll produce AVI files that
should be playable with any MPEG-4 player.

I would suggest AutoGordianKnot to start with - it's a lot easier to use and
will give the same results. The full version is great once you learn all of
the variations and options possible . AutoGK is free and the latest version
works without any hiccups. I play my files on a computer and a Zensonic 330
player.
